Major Decisions of the General Council meeting in Rome, April 2009

From April 20-25, 2009 the General Council and the three Provincials convened in Rome for a meeting at the newly renovated Pontifical Canadian College where Fr. Eric Sylvestre, pss, serves both as Rector and Procurator for the General Council. The meeting included visits to the Congregations for Evangelization, Religious, and Catholic Education. The primary purpose of the visits was to introduce the new Council and to update the Congregations on the current Sulpician ministry in each Province. Major Appointments

At this meeting the Council made the following appointments, effective immediately:

1) Rev. Phillip Brown, S.S., of the U.S. Province was named General Treasurer, succeeding Rev. Thomas Ulshafer, S.S., who had served in this capacity for twelve years and was recently elected Provincial Superior of the U.S. Province.

2) Rev. Eric Sylvestre, p.s.s., of the Canadian College, was confirmed as Procurator.

3) Rev. Jean-Luc Vedrine, p.s.s., of the Province of France, was named Administrator of the Bulletin de Saint-Sulpice, succeeding Rev. Francois Vial, p.s.s., who had held the position for the last twelve years. Father Vedrine will continue to participate in the Editorial Committee for the BSS.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the General Council will be held at rue du Regard in Paris, July 21-25, 2009.

Letter of the Superior General

Later this spring the Superior General will issue a letter to all the members of the Society of Saint Sulpice to communicate several perspectives from nearly one year of service in office.
