During Holy Week (18-23 March 2013) the General Council met at the Sulpician seminary in Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil, in conjunction with a canonical visit to that seminary conducted the previous week by the Superior General, Father Ronald D. WITHERUP, pss.
This is the first time a General Council has held a meeting in Brasilia. The Rector, Father Marco Antonio FORERO Reyes, pss, and his faculty, staff and seminarians were gracious hosts throughout the week. A highlight of the week included concelebrating the Chrism Mass with Archbishop Sérgio DA ROCHA and the priests of the Archdiocese of Brasilia. The Mass was followed by a festive dinner of all the bishops and priests hosted at the Nunciature by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Giovanni D’ANIELLO, just adjacent to the well-known Cathedral of Our Lady Aparecida. Later that evening, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper was celebrated at the seminary with the seminarians and guests from the local area.
The Seminário Maior Arquidiocesano de Brasília Nossa Senhora de Fátima currently hosts 72 seminarians from the Archdiocese of Brasilia and four surrounding dioceses. There is also a nearby propaedeutic seminary that currently has eighteen prospective seminarians.
