Great Success at the Sulpician Seminary

On Saturday 11 April 2015 the Sulpician Major Seminary at Issy-les-Moulineaux hosted another annual “Open Doors” experience organized by the seminarians themselves.

More than 900 people passed through the doors of the historic seminary building, young and old, families and individuals, regular supporters of the seminary and those who had never before been in the building. It was an occasion to promote vocation awareness and to witness to the vibrancy of the seminary community.

There were several highlights of the day, including a “round table” with representatives from the priesthood, religious life, and the married state. The Rector, Father Didier BERTHET, a priest of the Diocese of Nanterre introduced the session and also participated in addressing the nature of seminary formation today in accordance with Sulpician tradition.

Another highlight was the solemn vespers presided by His Excellency Michel AUPETIT, Bishop of Nanterre. The historic seminary “Grand Chapelle”—modeled after the chapel at the royal palace of Versailles—was filled to capacity.

The Superior General, Father Ronald D. WITHERUP, PSS, also participated in the day, giving an interview on aspects of Sulpician formation today, and assisting at the Solemn Vespers. The French Provincial, Father Jean-Marc MICAS, PSS also attended. The Mayor of Issy-les-Moulineaux, M. André SANTINI, who has greatly supported the seminary over the years, also attended the event.

Congratulations to the seminary community, especially the seminarians themselves, for a wonderful occasion! Since the event has grown each year since its founding, we can expect another success next year.
