Secondary Patron of the Society of Saint Sulpice

December 27 is the feast day of Saint John the Evangelist, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, to whom the Fourth Gospel is attributed. For more information about this famous saint’s connection to the Sulpicians, click here.

Two Sulpicians have written in recent years significant commentaries on the Gospel of John, Raymond E. BROWN (1928-1998), from the U.S. Province and Robert MERCIER (1939-) from the Canadian Province. Their commentaries are available in many libraries and through Amazon.com.

Collect for the feast:

God our Father, you have revealed the mysteries of your Word through John the Apostle. By prayer and reflection, may we come to understand the wisdom he taught. Grant this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Happy feast day to all Sulpicians and all ho bear the name John, “gift of God”!
